MACT awards Rs 2.17 cr relief to mishap victim

Pune: In the highest compensation in the State, the Pune District Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has directed an insurance company and trailer owner to jointly pay compensation of Rs 2.17 crore to a youth who suffered permanent disability in an accident in 2013. The order was passed by MACT Judge SK Karhale last week. 

The accident took place on August 24, 2013 on Talegaon-Chakan Road near Indrayani river bridge. Prasad Daundkar (25), a resident of Pimpri, was travelling in a car. The trailer came from the opposite direction and hit the car. Daundkar sustained severe injuries while the driver died. 

Daundkar spent three-and-half years visiting hospitals in and spent Rs 80 lakh on treatment. At the time of accident he was studying in third year BCom. Now he requires a physiotherapist and a caretaker.
